Himbabawod Falls drops through Barangay Bonbon, in the Busay hills above Cebu City, close enough to the metro that the trailhead sits about forty minutes from downtown. There’s no direct road to the falls — the standard route starts at Lava Mountain River Farm, then follows the riverbed on foot for close to forty-five minutes before the first cascade comes into view. That unpaved approach is also what keeps crowds down compared to waterfalls with parking lots at the base.

  • Wear shoes built for wet rock and river crossings — trail shoes with drainage work better than sandals for the riverbed sections.
  • Hire a guide at the jump-off point rather than navigating the river route solo; the path isn’t marked, and conditions shift after rain.
  • Go on a dry-weather day — the river crossings that make up most of the approach get dangerous fast during or after heavy rain.
