Igutan Falls

Guide to Igutan Falls in Cebu, Philippines.

Type: waterfallEntrance fee: FreeHours: Open dailyBest time: Morning or Late Afternoon

Igutan Falls sits in the central highlands behind Cebu City, in the same limestone hill country that produces most of the island’s interior waterfalls. A trail through mixed forest leads down to the base, where the falls empty into a pool cool enough to be a genuine break from the coastal heat below. Trail upkeep in this part of the highlands typically runs on small entrance fees collected at the barangay level — the same model used at most of Cebu’s inland falls, since there is no large operator managing the site.

  • A forest trail leads down to the falls; expect uneven footing and to pack out any trash, since there is no on-site waste collection.
  • The pool at the base is where most visitors stop to swim; pack a small picnic if planning to stay a while.
  • Early morning tends to be quieter than midday, when day-trippers from Cebu City tend to arrive.
