Cebu Ferries: The Bohol Corridor, the Outer Islands, and How to Book

The Cebu–Tagbilaran crossing is the most-booked inter-island route in the Visayas, and the one detail that matters operationally is the pier. OceanJet runs up to 18 daily sailings from Pier 1 (about 2 hours; Open-Air, Tourist, and Business classes — Tourist is the standard pick). SuperCat shares Pier 1 with slightly fewer Bohol sailings but is strong on the Oslob and Ormoc routes. FastCat is the cheapest to Bohol but departs Pier 4, south of the main terminal cluster — and “take me to the pier” will land you at Pier 1, so name Pier 4 explicitly. For all of them, the most reliable booking platform for international cards is 12Go, which aggregates operators and handles foreign payment more cleanly than the operator sites.

Booking strategy: two to seven days ahead is fine in normal season; same-day walk-up usually works but only for whatever’s unsold. The exceptions are firm — Sinulog (third Sunday of January and the week before), Holy Week, and Christmas–New Year, when Cebu–Bohol seats go four to six weeks out and standby queues are long and often unsuccessful. At the pier, allow 45 minutes for check-in and the ₱25–50 terminal fee (cash); a phone QR booking is accepted.

The outer islands each run on a bus-then-boat chain from the North bus terminal: Bantayan via a Ceres bus to Hagnaya (2.5h) then RORO to Santa Fe (45–60 min); Malapascua via bus to Maya (3h) then outrigger banca (45–60 min, charters after ~5pm); Camotes via bus to Danao (1.5h) then Lite Shipping (2–3h). The recurring trap is the last afternoon ferry back (~5–5:30pm) — miss it and you’re booking a bed on the island. Treat that as a decision, not an accident.
