Duration: 2 days, 1 night
This is a two-day, one-night package that picks you up from your Cebu City or Mactan hotel before dawn, ferries you across to Tagbilaran on the morning OceanJet, runs the standard Bohol countryside circuit, drops you at a Bohol hotel for the night, gives you a free morning, and returns you to your Cebu hotel by the following evening. Forty-eight hours, two ferry crossings, one overnight off-island.
It’s the longer alternative to the same-day Bohol day tour from Cebu. The trade is straightforward: you pay for an extra hotel night and an extra meal, but you don’t spend the full second day on a ferry-and-bus loop. If you’re traveling with kids, with elderly parents, or with anyone who’d find a 13-hour same-day round trip punishing, the 2D1N is the version to book.
What you’re buying
| Component | Detail |
|---|---|
| Pickup | Cebu City or Mactan hotel, 5:00–6:00 AM Day 1 |
| Ferry out | OceanJet, Cebu Pier 1 → Tagbilaran, ~2 hours |
| Day 1 ground portion | Private vehicle, English-speaking driver-guide, Bohol countryside circuit (~7 hours) |
| Overnight | Pre-arranged Bohol accommodation (Panglao or central Bohol depending on tier) |
| Day 2 morning | Free time at accommodation, late checkout option on some packages |
| Ferry back | OceanJet, Tagbilaran → Cebu Pier 1, ~2 hours |
| Drop-off | Cebu City or Mactan hotel, 7:00–8:00 PM Day 2 |
The package is built around OceanJet because the Cebu Pier 1 → Tagbilaran route lands you closest to the Bohol attractions most operators have built their itineraries around. SuperCat runs the same route and some operators use it as a substitute when OceanJet is full or weather-cancelled.
Day 1 — the Bohol countryside circuit
The standard Day 1 ground portion is the Bohol “loop” — the off-the-shelf circuit most operators run with minor variations. You’re typically looking at:
- Blood Compact Shrine in Tagbilaran (~15 minutes, a roadside monument, photo stop)
- Baclayon Church and its small museum (~30 minutes)
- Tarsier Conservation Area in Corella (~45 minutes, single short walking loop)
- Loboc River Cruise with buffet lunch (~90 minutes, floating restaurant with live music)
- Bilar Man-Made Forest (~15 minutes, a photo drive-through)
- Chocolate Hills viewpoint in Carmen (~60 minutes including the climb to the observation deck)
That’s the standard set. Some packages add a butterfly conservation center, a python sanctuary, or a souvenir-shop stop at the driver’s discretion when time allows. The whole loop is roughly seven hours of ground time including transit between sites.
By late afternoon you’re at your overnight hotel — most operators stage you in Panglao if the tier supports it (beach-resort feel, restaurants within walking distance) or in a central-Bohol hotel near the countryside attractions if you’re on a budget tier. Dinner is at the hotel or at a Loboc-area restaurant depending on the package.
Day 2 — flexible morning, return
The second day is the package’s main argument for itself. You’re not on a vehicle at 5 AM. Breakfast at the hotel, morning at leisure — beach time in Panglao, a swim, a slow checkout. Most packages set the return ferry for the mid-afternoon Tagbilaran departure (typically the 1:30 PM or 3:30 PM OceanJet sailing), which puts you back at your Cebu hotel by 7:00–8:00 PM.
A few packages offer an optional Day 2 add-on activity — Hinagdanan Cave, a Panglao beach circuit, or a short Balicasag snorkel — for travelers who’d rather pay more than sit at the hotel. Those are extras, not included by default.
Cebu protagonist — what the package solves
The reason this exists as a packaged product rather than a DIY assembly: the logistics chain has six handoffs (Cebu hotel → ferry terminal → ferry → Tagbilaran transfer → Bohol driver → hotel → reverse), and every handoff is a place where independent travelers lose time or get stranded. A package collapses those into one booking with one contact number, and it pre-buys the ferry seats — which sell out during Sinulog week, Holy Week, and Christmas-to-New-Year holidays. The Department of Tourism Philippines accredits tour operators — look for the DOT accreditation sticker when vetting operators in person.
From Cebu City, the package picks up at 5:00–6:00 AM because the 7:00 AM OceanJet sailing is the one that lands you in Tagbilaran early enough to run the full countryside loop and still reach your overnight hotel by 5 PM. The 8:30 AM and 1:30 PM sailings don’t leave enough day-light for the loop. If your pickup is from Mactan rather than Cebu City, expect a 4:30 AM pickup — the bridge-and-pier transfer adds 45 minutes.
Same-day vs 2D1N — choose this when
Choose the 2D1N over the same-day version when:
- You’re traveling with children under 10, with elderly parents, or with anyone who’d find a 13-hour day too long.
- You want any beach time in Panglao at all — the same-day tour doesn’t include it.
- You’re booking during peak season (December–May) and want guaranteed ferry seats on both legs.
- You’d rather pay for an extra hotel night than spend Day 2 entirely on a return ferry.
Choose the same-day version over the 2D1N when:
- You only have one spare day in Cebu and your other days are already booked.
- You’re a fit, schedule-tolerant traveler and don’t need the rest day.
- You want to keep your Cebu hotel as the single base for the whole trip.
Choose a Cebu-only tour over the 2D1N when you don’t actually want a ferry-and-bus day at all. Cebu’s southern tour cluster (Oslob whale shark, Kawasan canyoneering, Moalboal sardine run) covers a different category of experience and doesn’t ask you to leave the island. See the south-Cebu adventure hub for the alternative.
What’s typically included vs not
Included on the standard tier: hotel pickup and drop-off in Cebu, round-trip OceanJet fares (tourist class), Bohol private vehicle with driver-guide for Day 1, all listed entrance fees (Chocolate Hills, Tarsier Sanctuary, Baclayon), Loboc River cruise with buffet lunch, one night’s accommodation with breakfast.
Typically not included — these are the surprise costs:
- Ferry terminal fees (~₱25–50 per person each direction), paid in cash at the pier, not in the ticket.
- Environmental fees at Bohol attractions (₱30–50 each, ~₱150–200 total across the day).
- Optional add-ons in Bohol: ATV at Chocolate Hills, butterfly sanctuary entry, zip-line, all at your own expense.
- Day 2 lunch and dinner unless the tier specifies otherwise.
- Guide and driver tips (₱500–1,000 total is customary, not required).
- Ferry class upgrade (Business Class on OceanJet adds ~₱500–800 per person each way).
Get an itemised breakdown in writing before paying. The legitimate operators will give you one without asking.
Booking timing
Book 2–3 weeks ahead in dry season (December–May); same-week is usually fine in shoulder season (June, September, November). Sinulog week (mid-January) and Holy Week (March or April) need 4–6 weeks’ lead time — ferry seats are the constraint, not hotel rooms.
Weather-cancellation policy varies by operator. Honest ones reschedule both ferry legs and the hotel night free of charge when sailings are cancelled. Less honest ones refund only the unused legs and leave you holding the ground costs. Confirm the policy before paying.
Ferry connection
The Cebu Pier 1 → Tagbilaran leg is the OceanJet flagship route — 18 sailings daily either direction, two-hour crossing. SuperCat (see profile) runs the same route as the secondary option. FastCat (profile) lands at Tubigon rather than Tagbilaran and is the wrong ferry for this package — most operators won’t substitute it because Tubigon is the wrong end of Bohol for the countryside circuit. The Cebu Port Authority manages Pier 1 and the Bohol ferry terminals — departure gates are on the upper level.
If you want to do this independently rather than as a package, the Cebu Transportation Hub lays out the pier-by-pier detail. The package costs roughly 30–50% more than the DIY assembly, and the premium is for the coordination — whether that’s worth it depends on how much you value not having to manage six handoffs.
Where to stay before the early pickup
Mactan resorts work fine for the 4:30 AM pickup if you’re already there for a beach holiday, but Cebu City hotels save you 45 minutes of bridge transfer. The closer-to-Pier-1 cluster is the Ayala Center / Cebu Business Park area — see Where to stay in Cebu City for the neighborhood-by-neighborhood breakdown. The IT Park / Lahug cluster works too; Mabolo is closest to Pier 1.
Booking platforms
Viator carries the most 2D1N Cebu–Bohol package listings, Klook the next-most, and a handful of direct Cebu-based operators sell the same product through their own sites. Viator’s traveler-protection layer matters when you’re booking a ferry-inclusive package across two destinations — if either leg gets disrupted, the platform processes the refund rather than the local operator.
For the ferry-only leg if you decide to book ferries separately and arrange ground services on arrival, 12Go is the cleanest way to buy OceanJet tickets in advance. For a full operator comparison across all Bohol tour packages, see Best Bohol Day Tours from Cebu.
