The 1730 Jesuit House sits in Parian, the old trading district that grew up around Cebu City’s Chinese mestizo merchant community during the Spanish colonial period — one of the oldest continuously settled urban quarters in the Philippines. The house carries its date in a carving on the coral stone wall, and the structure blends the bahay-na-bato format common across the colonial Philippines with the stone-and-hardwood construction Jesuit builders favored at the time. What survives today functions as a small museum, with the original walls and several period furnishings still in place.
- Coral stone walls and heavy hardwood framing are original to the 1730 construction, not later additions.
- The ‘1730’ carving on the coral stone wall marks the building’s origin and is worth looking for on the way in.
- Parian’s surrounding streets carry other Chinese-mestizo trading-era buildings worth a short walk before or after the visit.
