Mt. Mauyog sits in the limestone hill country behind the Moalboal area, part of the karst spine running through south-central Cebu — the same rock system responsible for the sinkholes, caves, and sharp ridgelines found across this stretch of the province. The trail climbs through exposed rock and grassland before opening onto views back down toward the coast.
- The limestone formations along the upper trail are the main draw — worth timing for good light rather than pushing straight through at midday.
- Bring sturdy shoes and more water than you think you’ll need. Sections are steep and exposed, with little shade once you clear the tree line.
- A local guide is worth hiring here. South Cebu’s hiking routes are mostly informal, maintained by the same barangays that have shifted part of their income toward guiding as fishing and farming alone have gotten harder to live on.

South Cebu is the island's adventure-and-heritage coast — the Oslob whale sharks, the Kawasan canyoneering, the Moalboal sardine run, and the Spanish-colonial towns along the southern road.
