Candugay Beach

Guide to Candugay Beach in Cebu, Philippines.

Candugay sits on Barili’s stretch of the Tañon Strait — Cebu’s west coast, facing Negros across the channel — which is why this shoreline runs quieter than the beaches nearer the city and the standard south Cebu circuit. It’s a working coastline more than a resort one: small-scale fishing is still the main livelihood along this part of Barili, and the beach itself has no built infrastructure to speak of. That’s part of the appeal if you want sand without a beach club attached, and part of the reason to come prepared.

  • Walk the shoreline at low tide for shells and sea glass; the tide range here exposes more sand than the usual photos suggest.
  • Bring your own food and water — this is a fishing-community coastline, not a resort strip, so there’s little to buy on-site.
  • Stay for sunset: facing west across the Tañon Strait toward Negros, this side of Cebu gets a clean run of evening light the east coast doesn’t.
