Kandungaw Peak

Kandungaw Peak rises out of the limestone karst that defines much of Cebu’s southern interior, the same uplifted-seabed geology behind the sinkholes, caves, and sudden cliffs found across this part of the island. Villages at the trailhead earn part of their income guiding hikers up and down, a common arrangement across Cebu’s mountain trekking circuit, from Osmeña Peak to smaller trails like this one.

• The hike runs moderate rather than technical — forest trail giving way to rockier, more exposed sections near the top.
• Camping near the summit is allowed at designated spots, and a clear morning can deliver a sea of clouds below the ridge.
• Hiring a local guide is standard practice here, both for the route and for context on the mountain’s place in village folklore.
