Overview
Cebu’s Chinese-Filipino community built this temple in 1972 on a hillside in the Beverly Hills subdivision, roughly 110 metres above sea level — high enough that the climb up the entrance steps is part of the visit. The complex follows Taoist practice, centered on the teachings of Lao Zi, and — unlike the neighboring Phu Sian Temple — is open to non-worshippers as well as devotees. A scaled-down replica of the Great Wall of China frames part of the entrance approach, and the grounds hold a small chapel, a library, a souvenir shop and a wishing well alongside the main worship hall.
Location
Beverly Hills subdivision, Cebu City uplands.
Getting There
By taxi, Grab or private vehicle from Cebu City center, climbing into the Beverly Hills subdivision; often combined with a Busay-uplands run that also covers Temple of Leah and Tops Lookout, though the Taoist Temple sits on a separate hill from those two.
Practical Info
- Entry is free; donations are customary at the altar.
- Modest dress and quiet conduct are expected — this remains an active place of worship, not a photo backdrop only.
- Fortune-telling and incense-lighting are available for visitors who want to take part rather than only observe.
What to Expect
A working Taoist temple with a genuine congregation, set apart from Cebu’s Catholic heritage sites by both faith and architecture — dragon motifs, red-and-gold pagoda styling, and the Great Wall replica gate mark the approach clearly as Chinese rather than Spanish colonial.
