The Kanlaob River is where the Alegria-Badian canyoneering route starts, cutting through the same limestone corridor that runs down through southern Cebu’s interior — soft rock carved by seasonal flow into narrow canyons and a series of pools and drops rather than a single waterfall. It’s the less-crowded counterpart to the Kawasan Falls circuit further along the coast, run by local guide associations out of Alegria who know the current water levels and which sections are passable.
- Cliff jumping and pool-to-pool progression make up most of the route — expect to get fully wet early and stay that way.
- Go with a guide from one of the Alegria-based associations; the canyon isn’t something to navigate independently.
- The trip runs the full Alegria-to-Badian corridor, so budget most of a day rather than a quick stop.
