Danasan SkyBike

The Danasan SkyBike sends riders across a steel cable strung roughly 180 to 200 meters over the highland terrain of the 133-hectare Danasan Eco Adventure Park in Danao City — a standard bicycle frame fixed to the overhead line rather than resting on any track below.

Riders sit about 40 feet up, four to five stories above the ground, on a bicycle seat that looks almost ordinary except for the harness points welded onto the frame. Everyone rides in a helmet and a full-body harness clipped to the cable independently of the bike itself, which is what keeps the height from being as intimidating as it looks from the ground — even in the unlikely case the bike frame failed, the harness is a separate line back to the cable.

Pacing is entirely up to the rider — there’s no motor pulling anyone along, so it’s possible to pedal slowly and take in the mountain views across the highland terrain, or push through quickly if the height is the part you’d rather get past. Staff at both ends of the line can see the rider the whole way across and radio ahead if anyone stops partway, which happens occasionally with first-timers who pause before pedaling on.

It runs about ₱380 per person, in the same rate band as the park’s Extreme ATV Trails. Along with the ATV trails and the rest of the park’s lineup, the SkyBike is part of the same family-founded eco-park built around local livelihood as much as the adventure draw — the line’s setup crew, the harness checkers at each platform, and the maintenance staff who inspect the cable and pulleys are jobs the park created on land that had none before it was developed.

The cable line runs over terrain the park maintains under that same conservation-first approach, since the SkyBike’s towers and anchor points sit within the same forest cover that functions as watershed for the barangays downhill — part of why Danasan brands itself an eco-adventure park rather than just an adventure park. Cable inspection and re-tensioning happen on a routine schedule rather than only when something looks off, standard practice for any cable-supported ride carrying repeat daily loads.

Morning or late-afternoon rides tend to get better visibility across the highland terrain than midday, when haze can settle over the valley — one reason the park lists those windows as the better time to book the SkyBike specifically, separate from general park hours.

The ride draws a different crowd than the Giant Swing or the ATV trails — riders who want height and a mountain view without a drop or an off-road jolt attached to it. That makes it one of the more approachable attractions in the park’s higher-adrenaline lineup, a common first stop for visitors easing into the property’s more intense rides rather than starting with the Skydrop.

Because the line runs on a fixed cable rather than a powered system that can be shut down instantly, staff hold departures if weather turns — heavy rain or high wind changes how the cable behaves under load, and a suspended cable ride is one of the attractions most sensitive to conditions that wouldn’t otherwise slow down ground-based activities like the horse trail or the wall climbing wing. Checking conditions before making the drive out specifically for the SkyBike is worth doing during the rainy season.
