Getafe sits at the northern tip of Bohol, and almost nobody plans to go there. That is precisely what makes it useful: it is the crossing you take when your destination is northern or eastern Bohol and you would rather not land at Tagbilaran and then drive 70 to 90 kilometres back up the island.
It is also — quietly, and contrary to how the Cebu–Bohol corridor is usually described — the fastest sea crossing between the two provinces. OceanJet does Cebu Pier to Getafe in 1 hour 15 minutes, four times a day. Tagbilaran takes two hours. Tubigon takes two hours. The northern route is quicker than both, and has been hiding in plain sight because Getafe is not a place most visitors have heard of.
The town spells itself Getafe and is written Jetafe about as often, which is worth knowing when you search for it. On 12Go it is listed as “Getafe Bohol” — searching plain “Getafe” returns a Spanish town with no ferries at all.

Cebu → Getafe
OceanJet’s four daily fast-craft departures leave Cebu Pier at 06:30, 10:00, 13:30 and 17:00, arriving 07:45, 11:15, 14:45 and 18:15 respectively. Tourist Class sells at around US$10 with aircon, washrooms, and the enclosed cabin you would expect on a fast craft.
Clemer Shipping Lines runs the cheaper alternative from Cebu Pier 3 at 09:00 and 16:00, taking 1 hour 45 minutes for about US$8. Be clear about what that saves you into: Clemer’s vessel is open-air only — bench seating, no enclosed cabin, no air-conditioning. In fair weather it is the more interesting crossing. In a squall it is a long ninety minutes, and 12Go users rate the operator noticeably below OceanJet.
Two departures a day on Clemer also means missing the 09:00 costs you seven hours. That is the kind of gap that turns a cheap ticket into an expensive afternoon.

Getafe → Cebu
Northbound out of Bohol, the constraint is not the boat but getting to the pier. Getafe has no walk-up taxi density and no ride-hailing — Grab does not operate anywhere in Bohol province. Transport at the port is tricycles and habal-habal, and beyond short hops you want a van arranged in advance.
Realistic road times to Getafe: 30 to 45 minutes from the northern Chocolate Hills viewpoints around Carmen; 30 to 40 minutes north from Talibon; around 1.5 hours from Tagbilaran City; two to three hours from Anda along the northern coast road. If you are coming from Panglao, this is the wrong port — take Tagbilaran.
Clemer’s Getafe departures run at 06:15 and 13:15, mirroring the Cebu-side pair. Print your ticket for this one; small operators are less consistent than the fast-craft brands about accepting a phone screen.

The ports
Getafe’s pier is a genuinely modest piece of infrastructure, and the structure shapes the experience. It has a short disembarkation ramp that does not reach gangway height at most tides, so stepping off can mean a drop rather than a walk — awkward with a heavy bag and worth knowing if you are travelling with anyone who is unsteady on their feet. Waiting facilities are limited; there is no terminal to wait comfortably inside.
The port is also exposed. During the habagat months, roughly June through November, afternoon cancellations here are more likely than at the enclosed fast-craft terminals further south. That is not a reason to avoid the crossing — it is a reason to take a morning sailing and keep the rest of the day loose.

- Port of Cebu — the Cebu City baseport.
Operators on this crossing
OceanJet — fast craft, four daily, 1 h 15 m, the fastest option on the corridor and the one to default to.
Clemer Shipping Lines — open-air ferry, two daily, 1 h 45 m, cheapest fare on the pair. A smaller, more functional operation than the fast-craft brands, and rated accordingly. Confirm the pier at booking; small operators occasionally shift berths.
A third operator, Sunriser Cordova, also serves Getafe — but from Cordova on Mactan Island rather than from Cebu City. That is a genuinely different port pair with a different reason to exist, and it has its own page.
How to book
- Confirm Getafe is the right port. It earns its place for Anda, Talibon, and northern Bohol; for Panglao or Tagbilaran it does not.
- Search “Cebu to Getafe Bohol” on 12Go — the plain “Getafe” listing is a different place entirely.
- Choose OceanJet for speed and an enclosed cabin, or Clemer for the cheaper open-air crossing in settled weather.
- Take a morning sailing in the habagat months. This pier cancels more readily than the southern terminals.
- Arrange onward ground transport in advance. There is no taxi rank at Getafe.
Frequently asked questions
What is the fastest ferry from Cebu to Bohol?
OceanJet’s Cebu–Getafe fast craft at 1 hour 15 minutes. It is quicker than both the Tagbilaran and Tubigon crossings, which run about two hours each.
Why can’t I find Getafe on 12Go?
Because plain “Getafe” resolves to the Spanish town. Search “Getafe Bohol” instead.
Is the Clemer ferry worth the saving?
In fair weather, yes — it is roughly US$8 against US$10 and half an hour slower. It is open-air with bench seating and no air-conditioning, so in the wet season the fast craft is the better ticket.
How do I get from Getafe to the Chocolate Hills?
Roughly 30 to 45 minutes to the northern viewpoints around Carmen by hired van or habal-habal. This is the shortest approach to the hills from any Cebu ferry.
Is there transport waiting at Getafe port?
Tricycles and habal-habal for short hops. For anything further — Anda, Talibon, Tagbilaran — arrange a van in advance. There is no ride-hailing in Bohol.
Does this crossing get cancelled often?
More often than the southern crossings. The pier is exposed and afternoon cancellations during the June–November habagat are a real risk. Book mornings in that window.
