Talibon exists on the Cebu–Bohol map for a specific administrative reason: the Philippine Ports Authority developed it to take pressure off Tagbilaran, the provincial capital port that handles the bulk of the island’s traffic. That origin explains what the crossing is and is not. It is a decongestion route serving Bohol’s northern coast, not a tourist corridor, and it is priced accordingly — from about ₱470, among the cheapest tickets to Bohol from anywhere in Cebu.
It has also been described in the past as a single overnight sailing and a last resort. That is out of date. Lapulapu Shipping Lines currently runs two departures a day — a 12:30 that arrives in daylight and a 21:00 that crosses overnight — both taking about four hours, both with a genuine choice of cabin class. For a traveller headed to Talibon, Ubay, or the northern coast towns, that daytime sailing changes the calculation considerably.
What has not changed is the arithmetic for anyone going south. Talibon sits roughly 90 km from Tagbilaran, a two to two-and-a-half hour drive. Four hours on the water plus two and a half on the road is not a route to Panglao. It is a route to northern Bohol.
The crossing at a glance
| Crossing | ~4 h, both sailings |
| Sailings | 2 daily each way — 12:30 (daytime) and 21:00 (overnight) |
| Fare band | From about ₱470 · roughly US$5.67 Economy B to US$7.28 Aircon A |
| Classes | Economy B · Economy A · Aircon B · Aircon A |
| Cebu pier | Pier 3 |
| Bohol pier | Port of Talibon, San Pedro, northern coast |
| Operator | Lapulapu Shipping Lines (sole carrier) |
| Best for | Talibon, Ubay, Bien Unido, the northern coast towns |
The class ladder is unusually granular for a fare this low, and it is worth using. The gap between the cheapest Economy berth and the best Aircon berth is under two US dollars, which on a four-hour overnight crossing is the best-value upgrade on the strait.
Cebu → Talibon
Both sailings leave Cebu Pier 3. The 12:30 arrives at 16:30 — a straightforward afternoon crossing that lands you in northern Bohol with usable daylight left for the onward drive, which matters here because the roads out of Talibon are rural and unlit.
The 21:00 is the traditional sailing, arriving somewhere between 01:00 and 03:00 depending on the vessel and the class booked. It saves a night’s accommodation, at the cost of arriving in a small port town in the middle of the night with no transport waiting. If you take it, arrange your onward ride in advance or plan to wait at the pier until morning. Cargo loading starts early on the night sailing, so board by 20:00.

Talibon → Cebu
The return has historically departed Talibon around 21:00, arriving into Cebu Pier 3 in the small hours. Confirm the current board for your date — this is a two-vessel operation and the timings are less fixed than on the high-frequency corridors.
Getting to the port is the planning problem. Talibon is about 90 km from Tagbilaran City, two to two-and-a-half hours by bus from the Dao Integrated Bus Terminal via either the interior highway through Carmen or the northern coastal route. From Getafe it is a much easier 30 to 40 minutes south by van. There is no ride-hailing anywhere in Bohol, so buses, vans-for-hire, and tricycles are the whole menu.
If you are coming from Panglao or Tagbilaran and considering this crossing to save money, price the bus and the hours honestly first. The Tagbilaran fast craft usually wins on total door-to-door time even at three times the fare.

The ports
- Port of Talibon — the Bohol terminus, at Poblacion, San Pedro. A PPA expansion project has been referenced for this port; confirm what facilities exist on arrival rather than assuming a terminal building.
- Port of Cebu — the Cebu City baseport containing Pier 3.
Talibon’s pier does more than serve Cebu. It is the mainland link for eight island barangays — Busalian, Calituban, Cataban, Guindacpan, Mahanay, Nocnocan, Sag and Suba — that have no road access at all, plus outrigger connections to Getafe, Trinidad and Bien Unido. Those outrigger services are the real daily business of this port, and their schedules are not published online; you confirm them at the pier, in person, the way everyone else does.
Operators on this crossing
Lapulapu Shipping Lines is the sole carrier, running both daily sailings across four cabin classes. It has been the primary operator here for years.
Two other names — Gloria 2 and MV Lapu-Lapu Ferry 8 — appear on older Talibon port records, and historical rosters also list V.G. Shipping Lines and Island Shipping Corporation. None of them sold tickets on this corridor when it was checked. Treat that longer list as the port’s history rather than as booking options; single-operator dependence is the real condition of this route.
How to book
- Decide daytime or overnight. The 12:30 lands you in daylight; the 21:00 saves a night’s room but arrives in the dark with nothing running.
- Search the corridor on 12Go — the destination is listed as “Talibon Port”.
- Pay the small upgrade to Aircon. On a four-hour crossing it is the cheapest comfort on the strait.
- Arrange onward ground transport before you sail, especially on the night sailing.
- Board by 20:00 for the overnight departure; cargo loads first.
