- 1. Kalanggaman Island
Famous for its incredibly long, pristine white sandbar.
The Kalanggaman Island Circuit is a day-trip and island-hopping route that connects the northern tip of Cebu to one of the region’s best-known sandbars. Though politically part of neighboring Leyte province, Kalanggaman’s practical gateway is Northern Cebu, reached by boat from Malapascua Island or Maya Port in Daanbantayan — a crossing of roughly ninety minutes to two hours depending on sea conditions.
This circuit is built around a single feature: a long, shifting white sandbar that splits the island’s turquoise shallows in two, with a drop-off reef wall a short swim out that draws snorkelers. Because Kalanggaman has no permanent settlement or fresh water source, every visit runs as a supported day trip or overnight camping package rather than an independent one — operators bring their own food, water, and shade, and the local government now caps daily visitor numbers and charges an environmental fee to manage pressure on the sandbar and reef. It appeals to beach purists, drone photographers, and travelers looking to pair a Northern Cebu itinerary with an island most people only see in photos.
