Overview
Tumalog is a single-drop waterfall — a curtain rather than a tiered cascade — falling roughly 15 metres over a wide, moss-covered limestone cliff face into a pool that ranges from waist to chest deep. The width of the drop is the distinguishing feature: rather than one narrow chute, the water sheets across the cliff face, which is what gives the falls their soft, rain-like fall pattern rather than a single forceful jet.
The site sits in Barangay Tumalog, about 3 km from the Tan-awan whale shark viewing area, which makes it a standard add-on stop after an early-morning whale shark swim. Entrance fees are collected locally by the barangay and have been reported anywhere from free to about PHP 50, with the rate changing without formal notice — worth confirming at the gate rather than assuming a fixed price.
Location
Barangay Tumalog, Oslob municipality, southern Cebu.
Getting There
Habal-habal (motorcycle taxi) from Tan-awan, about 10 minutes and PHP 50–100 each way; from Oslob town center, about 15–20 minutes and PHP 80–150 each way. The falls are set back from the main road, reached by a short walk down from the habal-habal drop-off.
Practical Info
- Bring water shoes — the pool bottom is uneven rock.
- Combine with the Tan-awan whale shark encounter for one southern-Cebu morning circuit.
- Small native fish in the pool are sometimes marketed as a “doctor fish” foot treatment; this is an informal local add-on, not a managed facility.
What to Expect
A quiet, shaded pool at the base of a wide limestone drop, busiest mid-morning once whale shark tours let out. Early arrival gets the falls close to empty.
