Saint Peter Parish serves Bantayan town, on an island known nationally less for its beaches than for Holy Week: the Lenten processions here are among the more elaborate in the Visayas, carrying a woodcarving tradition that predates most of the resorts now lining the island’s coast. The parish holds Jubilee Church status for the Catholic Church’s 2025 Holy Year, Pilgrims of Hope — travelers who complete confession, Communion, and prayer for the Pope’s intentions here can receive a plenary indulgence through the year. Outside Lent it functions as a working parish in a town whose economy still leans on fishing and dried fish; danggit from Bantayan turns up in markets across Cebu more reliably than pilgrims turn up at this church.
