Our Lady of Guadalupe Cebu City

An iconic spiritual sanctuary in Cebu City dedicated to the patroness of the archdiocese, serving as a beacon of faith and Marian devotion.

Type: sight

The Archdiocesan Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe anchors the Guadalupe district of Cebu City, a residential and commercial barangay on the city’s inland side. Established as a parish in 1933, the church holds the image of the Virgin Mary honored as a patroness of Cebu — an image that, per parish history, survived both wartime damage and natural disasters over the decades. The building mixes modern structural elements with more traditional ecclesiastical detailing: a wide, high-ceilinged nave and a broad facade built to handle crowds well beyond a typical Sunday congregation.

As a designated Jubilee Church for the 2025 Jubilee Year — themed “Pilgrims of Hope” — the shrine’s holy doors gave pilgrims access to plenary indulgences and organized community observances through the year. Outside Jubilee-specific events, it functions as an active neighborhood parish first, a pilgrimage site second.
