Bocaue Peak

Bocaue Peak sits in the central highlands north of Cebu City, part of the ridge system that separates the metro area from the island’s western coast. Much of this upland belt falls in or near the Central Cebu Protected Landscape, the forest reserve that anchors the city’s water catchment — a detail that matters more to residents downhill than to anyone looking at the view from the summit. The climb runs through grassland and second-growth forest rather than a maintained trail, so footing and pacing matter more than distance covered.

• Wear real trail shoes and carry more water than feels necessary; the trail has minimal shade for long stretches, and the highlands heat up fast once the morning cloud cover burns off.
• Camping at the summit is common for a sunrise start — check for cloud inversion conditions the night before if that’s the goal.
• A local guide is worth hiring here: trails split and re-merge without much signage, and guide fees are typically one of the few direct income sources these highland barangays get from outside visitors.
