San Guillermo de Aquitania Parish Church anchors Dalaguete, a town better known regionally as Cebu’s vegetable basket — the upland barangay of Mantalongon runs a produce market that supplies a large share of the vegetables sold in Cebu City. The church itself is coral-stone, built during the Augustinian Recollect mission period that produced a run of similarly constructed churches along Cebu’s southeastern coast, several of which carry National Museum heritage recognition for their intact colonial-era fabric. The facade and interior show the plain, load-bearing coral-block style typical of that period rather than the more ornamented neoclassical work found elsewhere on the island.
- The coral-stone facade and interior are original construction, not a later restoration in a different material.
- The courtyard is a genuinely quiet spot for photographs outside of Mass hours.
- Visit during the town fiesta if the schedule allows — the church grounds fill with the kind of local activity that does not happen the rest of the year.
