North Beach sits on the quieter side of Malapascua, away from the boat traffic and dive shops clustered around the main landing. The sand stays soft and the water calm through most of the day, without the constant outrigger movement that fills the harbor-facing shore.

  • The shoreline is uncrowded enough for a proper stretch of sand to yourself, good for reading or a slow afternoon rather than people-watching.
  • Water stays calm and shallow well into the day, easy for a swim without fighting current.
  • Coral patches sit close enough to shore for casual snorkeling — bring your own gear, as rental stalls cluster near the main beach, not here.

Malapascua’s economy shifted from fishing to dive tourism once Monad Shoal’s resident thresher sharks became known internationally, and diving still drives most of the island’s income. The island took a direct hit from Typhoon Yolanda in 2013; the beaches and reef have recovered, but older residents will still point out which stretches of the tree line came back after the storm.
