Mundo Island

Guide to Mundo Island in Cebu, Philippines.

Mundo Island is a small, uninhabited islet off Lapu-Lapu City, part of the string of reef-fringed islands scattered through the Hilutungan Channel south of Mactan. There’s no resort infrastructure here — no restaurant, no fixed dock — which is what keeps it quieter than more developed islands nearby like Nalusuan. A boatman brings you across, you get a stretch of sand and reef largely to yourself for a few hours, and you leave the way you came.

  • Bring your own food, water and snorkeling gear — there’s nothing to buy on the island itself.
  • The reef offshore is shallow enough to snorkel without a boat, though it isn’t a formally protected sanctuary the way nearby Nalusuan’s is, so standard reef-safe practice — no standing, no touching — still applies.
  • Arrange the trip through a local boatman in Lapu-Lapu rather than a resort desk; most of these small-island runs are still informal, fisherman-run operations rather than packaged tours.
