Mount Kan-Irag rises out of Cebu City’s upland barangays — Sirao specifically, the same highland stretch known for its flower farms — and the summit clears the ridgeline enough to see the Cebu Strait and, on a clear morning, across toward the mountains of Negros. Locals still call it Sirao Peak more often than Kan-Irag; either name gets you the same trail.
- The morning climb rewards sunrise chasers with the city’s lights fading out below cloud cover before the heat sets in.
- Overnight camping on the summit is common enough that the trail sees regular weekend traffic; expect company if you’re camping on a Saturday.
- The trail itself is a moderate day hike rather than a technical climb — manageable for a first-timer with reasonable fitness, not a specialist trek.
Cebu City’s highland barangays like Sirao sit inside the watershed that still supplies part of the city’s water, which is one reason development up here has stayed lighter than the resort sprawl on the coast.
