Moalboal’s house reef runs right off Panagsama Beach — no boat required, just a walk-in entry over a shallow shelf that drops into deeper water within a few dozen meters. It’s the same reef that made Moalboal a dive town in the first place: the resident sardine run, a shifting mass of millions of fish, still schools reliably over the reef wall most days of the year.

  • The drop-off starts close to shore; expect coral wall, reef fish, and the sardine ball on most visits, sunrise being calmest.
  • Green sea turtles graze the seagrass beds a short swim from the sand — approach slowly, they’re used to divers but not to being chased.
  • Gear rental shops line the beach road; no need to book a boat or guide for a house reef swim.

Moalboal ran on fishing until diving took over as the main income source from the 1980s onward, and the house reef is the reason why — a shore-accessible reef this healthy is rare enough that it turned a fishing village into Cebu’s most established dive base.
