Guide to Kulabyaw Cave in Cebu, Philippines.

Kulabyaw Cave sits inland in south Cebu’s karst belt, the same limestone terrain that produces most of the province’s cave systems. Stalactites, stalagmites, and connecting chambers run deep enough that a local guide isn’t optional — the safest routes through the formations aren’t obvious without one, and guiding here is one of the few income sources this upland barangay has outside farming. Expect some crawling and low clearances rather than an easy walkthrough; this is a working cave, not a lit tourist circuit.

  • The formations are worth the effort, but bring a real headlamp — phone flashlights won’t hold up in the darker chambers.
  • Expect some crawling and climbing; wear clothes you don’t mind getting muddy.
  • Book a local guide in advance through the barangay tourism office rather than showing up unannounced.
