Kampael Falls

Guide to Kampael Falls in Cebu, Philippines.

Kampael Falls sits inland from Ginatilan, reached by a trail that climbs through forest and crosses the river a few times before opening onto the falls. The hike isn’t paved or signposted the way Kawasan’s route further along the coast is, which keeps the crowds thinner and the plunge pool clearer. At the base, the water collects in a catch basin deep enough for swimming, cold enough to notice after the climb.

  • The trail runs through forest and light stream crossings; sturdy shoes matter more than a swimsuit here.
  • The catch basin at the base holds cold, clear water — a working swimming hole, not a photo backdrop.
  • A local guide from the barangay is worth hiring: the route isn’t marked, and guiding is common household income along this stretch of the South Cebu waterfall circuit that also feeds Kawasan and Aguinid downstream.
