Basdaku, Cebuano for “big beach,” is Moalboal’s main stretch of white sand, wider and longer than the town’s original dive hub at Panagsama a short ride away. Moalboal itself has shifted hard toward dive tourism over the past few decades, from a fishing town into one of the Visayas’ main freediving and snorkeling bases, and Basdaku carries the beach-resort side of that shift: cottages, beach bars serving grilled fish and cold drinks by the sand, and a steady weekend crowd. Palm cover along the sand gives shade without needing a rented umbrella, and the water stays calm enough for casual swimming rather than serious surf.

  • Swimming and beach volleyball are the default daytime activities, with the sand wide enough to spread out even on busy weekends.
  • Beachfront cottages put you a few steps from the water, useful if diving or snorkeling early is the plan.
  • Moalboal’s dive sites, including the sardine run near Panagsama, are close enough for a short tricycle ride from here.
