Terms of Use
These are the terms governing your use of cebu.tips. Plain-English drafting, but the substance is binding. By continuing to use the site you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the site.

1. What this site is
cebu.tips is an independent online travel publication covering Cebu Province in the Philippines. The site publishes:
- Destination guides, tour comparisons, and hotel write-ups for Cebu Province
- Practical logistics content (ferries, flights, buses, airport transfers, when to visit, money and connectivity)
- Affiliate booking links to third-party platforms including Klook, GetYourGuide, Viator, Booking.com, Agoda, 12Go, and Airalo
cebu.tips is a content publishing site. It is not a travel agency, a tour operator, a hotel, a booking platform, or a travel agent. That distinction matters in the sections below.
Site owner / operator: cebu.tips (final operating entity to be confirmed before launch). Jurisdiction: Republic of the Philippines, operations based in Cebu City. Contact: via the contact page or hello@cebu.tips (placeholder).
2. The affiliate relationship — what it means for you
cebu.tips earns commissions when readers book through affiliate links on the site. This is stated explicitly on the about page and the privacy policy; it’s also captured here so there’s no ambiguity in the legal framing.
What this means:
- When you click an affiliate link on cebu.tips and complete a purchase, the partner platform (e.g. Klook, GetYourGuide, Viator, Booking.com, Agoda, 12Go, Airalo) pays us a referral commission.
- The commission comes out of the platform’s margin, not your wallet. You pay the same price either way.
- We receive no payment to feature specific hotels, tours, or operators ahead of others. Editorial decisions are not influenced by commission rates.
What it doesn’t mean:
- cebu.tips is not your travel agent.
- cebu.tips is not a party to any booking you make through a partner platform.
- If something goes wrong with your reservation — cancellation, no-show, quality issue, schedule change, refund dispute — that is between you and the platform or the underlying service provider. cebu.tips cannot process refunds or amend bookings on the platform’s behalf.
We’ll help where we usefully can (a broken link, a mis-routed redirect, content errors that contributed to a wrong booking decision), but we cannot refund money we never collected.
3. Content — copyright, attribution, fair use
All editorial content on this site — articles, guides, comparisons, photography, illustrations, layouts, structural design — belongs to cebu.tips or to credited contributors, and is protected under Philippine copyright law (Republic Act No. 8293, the Intellectual Property Code) and international copyright treaties.
Permitted use:
- Reading the site for personal travel planning.
- Sharing links to our pages on social media, in messages, on blogs, or in editorial contexts.
- Quoting short passages (a sentence or two) for review, education, or commentary purposes, with attribution and a link back to the source page.
Not permitted without prior written permission:
- Copying or republishing full articles or substantial portions of any article, even with attribution.
- Using our photography or original graphics elsewhere.
- Scraping, bulk-downloading, or systematically harvesting content through automated tools (bots, scrapers, training-data crawlers).
- Republishing content under your own name or your publication’s name.
- Using our content to train machine-learning models or generative AI systems without express written permission.
Travel writers, journalists, and educational institutions who want to reference our work in their own publications: get in touch via the contact page. Reasonable requests with proper attribution will generally be approved.
4. Acceptable use
When using the site you agree not to:
- Use cebu.tips for any illegal purpose or in violation of any applicable law.
- Post comments (where comment functionality exists) that are abusive, threatening, defamatory, obscene, or that harass other users.
- Attempt to interfere with, hack, scrape, reverse-engineer, or otherwise compromise the site’s systems.
- Impersonate cebu.tips, its partners, or other users.
- Use the site in a way that could damage, disable, overburden, or impair our servers or networks.
If you submit comments, feedback, or other user-generated content, you grant cebu.tips a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to display, store, and (where relevant) moderate or edit that content for the purposes of running the site. You retain ownership of what you wrote; we reserve the right to remove anything that violates these terms.
5. Third-party bookings — the part you actually need to read
This section is important.
When you click a link on cebu.tips through to Klook, GetYourGuide, Viator, Booking.com, Agoda, 12Go, Airalo, or any other partner platform, you are entering into a contract with that platform, not with cebu.tips.
cebu.tips is not responsible for:
- Pricing errors, currency conversion discrepancies, or unexpected charges on partner sites.
- Tour quality, hotel quality, transport reliability, or any operational failure by a service provider.
- Cancellations, no-shows, overbookings, delays, or weather-driven disruptions.
- Changes in availability, schedule, or operator between the time a guide was published and the time you’re reading it.
- Loss, injury, or damage of any kind arising from a booking made through a third-party platform.
We make a good-faith effort to keep guides accurate and current. Always confirm critical details — prices, schedules, availability, cancellation terms — directly with the provider before finalising travel plans.
Travel insurance is strongly recommended, particularly for multi-island and ferry-heavy trips. Cebu’s ferry schedules are vulnerable to weather cancellations during typhoon season (July–November); single-day plans can shift to overnight stays at short notice. Make sure your policy covers this.
6. Accuracy of content
cebu.tips publishes content in good faith. We verify facts at time of writing, date our checks where relevant, and note when information is provisional or likely to change. We are not, however, omnipresent. Ferry schedules change without notice. Hotels rebrand, close, or refurbish. Tour operators retire products. Prices drift. Tour conditions vary day to day.
Content is provided on an “as is” basis without warranties of any kind. If you spot something outdated or wrong, please tell us via the contact page. Corrections are made promptly when verified.
Don’t make irreversible travel decisions based solely on what you read here. Call ahead. Check the official source. Confirm with your hotel or operator. Cebu.tips is a starting point for your planning, not a substitute for on-the-ground confirmation.
7. Limitation of liability
Legal version: To the maximum extent permitted by Philippine law, cebu.tips and its operators, contributors, and partners shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, including loss of profits, data, business opportunity, or goodwill, arising out of or in connection with your use of this site or any third-party services you book through links on this site, even if cebu.tips has been advised of the possibility of such damages. Our aggregate liability to you for any direct damages arising from these Terms or your use of the site shall not exceed the total amount you have actually paid cebu.tips directly — which, for the overwhelming majority of readers, is zero, because the site is free to use.
Plain version: We write the best, most honest guides we can. If a tour you booked through one of our links was disappointing, or a hotel underperformed, or a ferry cancellation upended your itinerary — that’s genuinely unfortunate, but it’s between you and the provider. cebu.tips is not in a position to compensate for third-party service failures.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits any liability that cannot be excluded or limited under Philippine law.
8. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless cebu.tips and its operators from any claim, demand, loss, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your breach of these terms, your misuse of the site, or your infringement of any third-party rights.
9. Governing law and jurisdiction
These terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Republic of the Philippines.
Any dispute arising from or related to these terms or your use of the site, where it cannot be resolved through direct communication with cebu.tips, falls within the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Cebu City, Philippines.
Before any formal dispute, we’d ask you to use the contact page first. The overwhelming majority of issues can be resolved that way.
10. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms when needed — to reflect changes in our practices, in the law, or in how the site operates. When we do, we’ll update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. For material changes (those that meaningfully affect your rights), we’ll post a notice on the site for a reasonable period.
Continuing to use the site after a change has been posted constitutes acceptance of the updated terms. We won’t change the terms in ways that retroactively diminish your rights without notice.
11. Termination
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to the site at any time, for any reason, including breach of these terms (scraping, posting harmful content, illegal activity). You can stop using the site at any time; no formal cancellation is required, as no account or subscription is involved for most readers.
12. Miscellaneous
Entire agreement. These terms, together with the privacy policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and cebu.tips regarding your use of the site.
Severability. If any provision of these terms is found unenforceable by a court of competent jurisdiction, the remaining provisions remain in full effect.
No waiver. Our failure to enforce any provision of these terms does not constitute a waiver of our right to enforce that provision later.
Assignment. You may not assign your rights or obligations under these terms. cebu.tips may assign its rights and obligations to a successor entity (for example, if the site is acquired).
Language. These terms are written in English. Any translation into Filipino, Bisaya, or another language is provided for reference; the English text controls in case of conflict.
Force majeure. cebu.tips is not liable for failure to perform any obligation under these terms when that failure is caused by circumstances beyond reasonable control (natural disasters, government action, internet outages, pandemic-related disruption, etc.).
