Zamboanga Peninsula: Western Mindanao

The Zamboanga Peninsula (Region IX) is a long, mountainous landmass extending westward from the main body of Mindanao, separating the Sulu Sea to the north from the Moro Gulf to the south. Zamboanga City, located at the peninsula’s southern tip, is the commercial hub and is known as “Asia’s Latin City” due to its Chavacano-speaking population (a Spanish-based creole).
