Western Visayas (Region VI) covers the western portion of the Visayan island group: the entire island of Panay (Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Iloilo), the island province of Guimaras, and the western half of Negros island (Negros Occidental). Iloilo City is the regional administrative centre; Bacolod (Negros Occidental) is the other major urban hub. Boracay, off the northwestern tip of Panay, is the region’s largest international draw. The region is predominantly Hiligaynon (Ilonggo)-speaking, culturally and linguistically distinct from the Cebuano-speaking Central Visayas. Reference stub.
