Mindanao is the Philippines’ second-largest island at approximately 97,530 km², forming the southern third of the archipelago. Its northern coast borders the Bohol Sea, placing it within the same maritime zone as Bohol and Cebu — ferries connect Jagna and Ubay (eastern Bohol) to Mindanao ports including Nasipit and Cagayan de Oro. Davao City, on the southeastern coast, is the island’s largest city and a regional air hub with direct international services; Cagayan de Oro on the northern coast is the gateway to the Bukidnon highlands and Iligan’s Maria Cristina Falls.
For the Abaka network’s current ph-scope sites (Cebu, Bohol), Mindanao is relevant as a ferry-connection reference (Bohol’s eastern coast ports link to northern Mindanao) and as context for the Bohol Sea ecosystem that spans the two island masses. This entity is a reference stub; editorial content for Mindanao destinations is outside the current site scope.
