The Bicol Region (Region V) occupies the southeastern peninsula of Luzon, plus the island provinces of Masbate and Catanduanes. It is geographically defined by a chain of active volcanoes, most notably the near-perfect cone of Mount Mayon in Albay province. Legazpi City is the regional centre and main air hub. The region is distinct linguistically (Bikol languages) and culinarily, renowned for its heavy use of coconut milk and chili peppers (Bicol Express, laing). Reference stub.
