Santa Teresa de Avila Parish sits in Talisay City, the stretch of Metro Cebu just south of the capital where the coastline briefly turns into open beach before the urban grid resumes toward Cebu City. The church serves as Talisay’s parish center in the same way most Cebu town churches do — fiesta, Sunday Mass rhythm, and the town’s civic calendar all run through it. Talisay’s own historical footnote sits a few streets from the church: this is the stretch of coast where Allied and Filipino forces landed in March 1945 during the liberation of Cebu, a detail more often found on a historical marker than in the tourist material for the city. Locally, Talisay is also known for linarang, a spiced fish stew that shows up on carinderia menus around town — worth asking after if you are passing through around a meal.
