Saint John of Sahagún Parish sits in Toledo City, on Cebu’s west coast, a city whose economy has run on copper mining since the mid-20th century — the Atlas mine here has for decades been one of the country’s largest copper mining operations, and mining still shapes the town more than tourism does. The Archdiocese designated the parish a Jubilee Church for the 2025 Pilgrims of Hope, meaning pilgrims completing the prescribed visit can obtain a plenary indulgence, the standard provision at Jubilee churches everywhere. The dedication is to John of Sahagún, a 15th-century Augustinian friar remembered in Spain for mediating civil disputes in Salamanca before his canonization. For travelers on the west-coast route, it’s a working parish stop rather than a heritage-architecture destination.
