Saint Francis of Assisi Parish serves as Balamban’s town church, one of several across the province designated a Jubilee Church for the 2025 Jubilee Year — a status that came with holy doors and access to plenary indulgences during the observance, on top of its regular role as the town’s parish.
Balamban itself runs on a different economy than most of Cebu’s coastal towns: Tsuneishi Heavy Industries operates one of the largest shipyards in the country here, and the town’s rhythm follows shipbuilding schedules as much as the fishing and farming that shaped it before the yard arrived. The church sits apart from that industrial economy, still the town’s older civic and spiritual center even as Balamban’s workforce has shifted toward the yard.
Visit in the morning or during scheduled Mass to see the parish active rather than empty — outside those hours it functions mainly as a quiet stop on the coastal road between Cebu City and Toledo.
